Three historical establishments emblematic of French excellence join forces for an exceptional auction in honour of Dior..
Monnaie de Paris, (the Paris Mint) Dior and Sotheby's have come together to pay tribute to the floral scent and beautiful bottle of the first-ever fragrance created by Christian Dior with a unique, one-of-a-kind gold coin collection.
As part of the French Excellence series that previously featured Boucheron, Cartier and Jean-Paul Gaultier, among others, the Dior series consists of eight designs a commemorative silver medal, sevenal coins with denominations ranging from 10 to 10,000 euros along with a unique gold perfum bottle.
Designed by Joaquin Jimenez, General Minter of Monnaie de Paris, each of the coins feature Dior insignia with bow,s stylized roses, as well as the houndstooth motif and the five-pointed star.
The spectacular perfum bottle, made of 2 kg / 4.4 lbs of gold, is an exceptional piece evokative of the shape of the first perfume that Christian Dior created. The whole collection is presented in a showcase shaped like a sewing box. A symbol of the centuries-old expertise and excellence of Monnaie de Paris, with the perfum bottle set to be auctioned by Sotheby's with an estimated pre-sale price of €200,000 - €300,000
A portion of the proceeds raised will go to Fleurs d'Exception du Pays de Grasse , an association aimed to protect, promote and bring the flower crops of Grasse to their full potential. It supports young farmers, fosters the transmission of traditional expertise, advocates for local heritage, and works to safeguard the environment and biodiversity.
The collection will be made available at a special live auction at Sotheby's Paris from March 1st to 4th as part of the first Luxury Week of 2022, known as Re(LUX).
